Founded almost 30 years ago US based Earthquake Sound is today renowned for its mobile audio, pro sound and home theatre audio systems. The latter particularly for its active subwoofers.
For the decor conscious audiophile Earthquake Sound also produces a wide range of in-ceiling speakers such as the SS-82W.
Featuring an 8″ woofer with a coaxially mounted 1″ silk dome tweeter the SS-82W, according to Earthquake Sound, should prove ideal for the home theatre enthusiast seeking to upgrade his system to be compatible with the current Dolby Atmos surround format. Dolby Atmos playback requires suitably encoded Bluray movies, a similarly specced surround receiver and, at the minimum, a pair of overhead speakers.
In addition to the aesthetically attractive prospect of a seamless, unobtrusive in wall mount the SS-82W with its adjustable 20 degree tweeter aim should prove ideal as an Atmos speaker. The tweeter mounted on a rotating ball can be positioned to optimise sound dispersion to the listener.
Rated to be able to handle up to 300 watts power input into a nominal 8 ohms impedance the SS-82W is also highly sensitive requiring only 1 watt to produce a high 91db of sound pressure level.
Other important feature include a bass and treble boost or cut of up to 3 db., magnetically attached grilles and a high grade audiophile standard crossover network system.
In conformation with the latest ACS 3.0 (Architectural Ceiling Speakers) standard, the SS-82W is available in either white or a paintable grille to allow it to match its surroundings.
The SS-82W retails for RM990 per piece.
