KLIAVS 2024: CMY to launch world’s most expensive wireless active speakers

Focal Diva Utopia wireless active speakers

Head to CMY’s room at the Kuala Lumpur International AV Show later this month and check out the world’s most expensive wireless active speakers — the Focal Diva Utopia which retails at RM190,000.

While other companies have come up with less expensive wireless speakers such as KEF’s LS60 which retails at RM33,999 and B&W’s Formation Duo which retails at RM17,850, Focal has aimed for the high-end sector of this market segment.

For that large sum of money you get plenty of Naim amplification — 250W to the woofers, 75W to the mid-driver and 75W to the tweeter, all in Class AB.

The Focal Diva speakers are 3-way bass-reflex active featuring 4 x 6 1/2″ (16.5cm)woofers in push-push configuration, a 6 1/2″ (16.5cm) with TMD surround and NIC motor mid-driver and a 27mm pure beryllium inverted dome tweeter.

Frequency response is rated at (+/- 3dB) 30 Hz-40 kHz while maximum SPL is 116dB per pair. So they can go quite low and quite loud.

Inputs to the primary speaker are HDMI eARC, CEC, TOSLINK Optical, RCA analogue, Type A USB 2.0 and RJ45 Ethernet. The connection to the other speaker is via RJ45.

It can handle these streaming sources: Internet radio formats — Windows Media-formatted content, MP3, ACC, Ogg Vorbis streams and MMS. Its network capabilities include Ethernet (1000/100/10 Mbps) and Wi-Fi (Wi-Fi 6) The Focal Diva can be controlled by a proprietary app.

Of interest is that the speakers have side panels which are removable and are made from grey felt.
