NIAVS 2025: Malaysia’s Magnificent Seven

Electrical engineer Chong Ching Yong, better known as CCY, with his current integrated ampliifier.

Chong Ching Yong (CCY)

Chong Ching Yong aka CCY is already well known in the Malaysian audiophile scene for his amplifier designs. For the Northern International AV show he designed a current amplifier.

I didn’t know what a current amplifier was and tried hard to understand CCY’s explanation. He WhatsApped me an article by amplifier sifu Nelson Pass and after I read it I understood a wee bit more about what CCY was trying to achieve with his current amplifier which is meant specifically for full-range drivers.

Nelson Pass wrote: “In a previous article, ‘Current Source Amplifiers and Sensitive / Full-Range Drivers’, I have discussed some advantages with these amplifiers for Lowther, Fostex and similar loudspeakers.”

He said current source power amplifiers have high output impedances and deliver a specific current to the load in response to an input voltage. The voltage across the loudspeaker reflects its response to this defined current.

To demo his SS300B 25C integrated current amplifier, CCY actually made a pair of floorstanding speakers featuring full-range drivers from Mark Audio paired with woofers in cabinets made of aluminium.

So if you are planning to use full-range speakers, give CCY a call at 017-2077731 to check out his current amplifier.

Tan Chong Tat and his speakers using Scan-Speak drivers.

Tan Chong Tat

Tan Chong Tat is the boss of Victoire Sense Enterprise, which is the Malaysian distributor for Scan-Speak drive units.

Thus it is not surprising that he designed a pair of floorstanding speakers using Scan-Speak drivers. His unnamed speakers, which feature an attractive diamond-shaped design, retail at RM48,888.

JW Speaker Lab’s MTM Monitor (NIAVS Edition)

Joseph Wong

Joseph Wong of JW Speaker Lab is well known for his speaker designs for stereo listening and home theatre purposes.

For the NIAVS 2025, he designed an MTM Monitor which was priced at RM14,888 for the NIAVS (normal price is RM22,888).

Joseph Wong

The MTM Monitor uses a 29mm beryllium tweeter and two 6.5-inch paper cone woofers. The drivers are from SB Acoustics’ Satori range.

AA Audio’s Roon Server

Dr Anwar Ali

AA Audio, Dr Anwar Ali’s outfit, has produced USB cables and music streamers. Now Dr Anwar has designed a Roon Server with an industrial motherboard.

Dr Anwar Ali

Dr Anwar’s relentless pursuit of sonic nirvana is legendary and as soon as he has come up with one model, he is already tinkering with it to improve its performance.

Leong Wei Hang of Notbrand Acoustics

Leong Wei Hang

One would likely be confused as to what a company with a name like Notbrand Acoustics has to offer.

Well, Leong Wei Hang, the founder, director and IEM tuner of the company, has IEMs and headphone cables to offer.

Some of the Notbrand IEMs available for demo.

Leong is one of the few Malaysian head-fi entrepreneurs who make IEMs.

NY Audio’s pre-amp.

Jason Ngo

Last year Jason Ngo was with a company called N&L Oris which made valve preamps that could be daisy-chained to boost the gain.

This year, Jason Ngo was with another company called NY Audio which offered a preamp and a Class A hybrid power amp.

Jason Ngo

The interesting thing about the preamp is that it uses the Raytheon 6418 sub-miniature tubes.

Fusion power regenerator

Goh Kheng Liang

Power supply has to be clean for any stereo system to sound good and the only way to have 100% pure power is by regenerating power.

Goh Kheng Liang, a Penangite, has designed a power regenerator that actually works very well. See https://www.av2day.com/2025/04/gohs-fusion-power-regeneration-plant-is-a-silent-killer/ and https://www.av2day.com/2025/03/made-in-malaysia-fusion-regen-power-supply-by-goh-kheng-liang/

Goh Kheng Liang

At the NIAVS 2025, his Fusion power regenerator was in AFC Top Hi-Fi’s booth.
