Three was not a crowd yesterday during Malaysia’s first Audio Passport Challenge in the Bermuda Triangle of Audio involving three AV/head-fi/hi-fi firms in the SEA Park area of Petaling Jaya. While three was not a crowd, there was indeed quite a crowd taking part in the event.
Many young audiophiles started at TechX where a Hi-Fi Klinik was held and preloved components were given a cleaning up with a leaf blower. These audiophiles picked up passport cards from Thiban and made their way to Stars Picker where the MartinLogan Motion Series speakers were launched.

At Stars Picker, two demo systems were set up — the main system featured the MartinLogan Motion XT F200 floorstanders (retail price RM36,500 a pair) while the smaller system featured the MartinLogan Motion F10 floorstander (RM16,800 a pair).

After that stop, the audiophiles made their way to JW Speaker Lab where Joseph Wong had set up his TAS (The Affordable System) featuring speakers he designed, the JW Uni two-way sealed-box bookshelf speakers, which retail at RM3,800.
The other components are a NAD C328 integrated amplifier (retailing at RM3,450), the Wiim Pro Plus streamer/DAC (RM1,200), 28-inch speaker stands (RM350), the Wireworld Luna 8 interconnects (RM400) and the Wireworld Helicon 162 OFC speaker cables (RM700). The total cost is RM9,900. However, Joseph Wong is offering a special discount and the entire system is priced at RM8,888. A JW subwoofer is also available as an optional item.
His new JW Linea AV system was on static display.

The Audio Passport Challenge in the Bermuda Triangle of Audio in Petaling Jaya was a most interesting and enjoyable event made possible by collaboration among two AV and head-fi distributors/dealers and a speaker manufacturer.
This event has added much excitement to the Malaysian AV scene. Let’s hope other distributors/dealers will step up and plan such interesting events.
