The Ascendo experience is one that can be felt as well as heard. Words can’t prepare you for the depth, weight, impact and speed that its insane subwoofers are capable off. With its already stellar line up of back breaking, earth rumbling beasts, Geoffrey Heinzel who leads this mad house insists on continuous improvements. This has led us to the latest updated infrasonic models as well as a brand spanking new sub, the 28 Sub Squared.
The new sub was launched together with the Ascendo The 32 Sub at AV Designs showroom in the Boulevard Business Park, Kuala Lumpur. The brand new 28 Sub Squared is a sealed, passive subwoofer which is designed from the ground up using all of AIA’s know how. This culminated in a brand-new physics defying design which quite honestly is hard to believe even when it’s physically in front of you.

Speaking of which, the brand new 28 Sub Squared was unboxed and revealed to all attendees for the first time here in Malaysia at AV Designs showroom yesterday (26th June) with much excitement from all present. The unit which weighs in at 140 kg is surprisingly small given its size and driver dimension. The crowd was showering it with Oohs and Aahs with many stepping up to touch it as its design really leaves you in disbelief.
The large square cone which measures 28 inches on each side has actually the same surface area as the larger 32-inch infrasonic unit. This is possible thanks to its square shape, utilising most of the front of the cabinet as the driver surface. This sealed sub cabinet is also amazingly shallow at just 300mm, which when contrasted against the driver leaves many baffled.

The driver is a Carbon Rohacell composite sandwich which is super glossy to look at in person and is stiff to the touch. Many tapped it in surprise wondering how this solid surface could move given its feel.

After the reveal by Tony from AV Designs, James (also from AVD) then proceeded to showcase the prowess of the 32-inch passive beast married to a host of speakers and subwoofers all from Ascendo for the complete visceral cinema experience. Popular test scenes such as the tank battle from Fury did the rounds as well as some new ones to showcase its muscle as well as its finesse.

After a quick break from all that bone shaking action, Mr Jo Ki stepped in to then showcase the capabilities of the Ascendo system when used for music enjoyment. A list of curated tracks to push the limits of the system, revealing its flexibility, excellent dynamics and performance headroom.
