Samsung’s latest range of QLED 4K television sets was launched yesterday in Black Box, Publika, Kuala Lumpur in a dazzling event with videos showing vivid colours, contrasty images and lots of special effects.

One of the most exciting features of the Samsung 2018 QLED 4K TVs actually has nothing to do with picture quality. It is the Magic Screen feature which is geared towards interior decor. It actually solves the problem of what to do with the TV when it is turned off.

Essentially what it does is to use the TV as a photo frame to display either the TV’s sample shots or your own photos. It can also display real-time information such as weather reports, news and time. The most interesting function is that it can mimic the design on the wall behind it and fit in seamlessly so that visually it becomes part of the wall. For all this to happen, you need to download an app on your Samsung smartphone.

President of Samsung Malaysia Electronics Yoonsoo Kim said: “This year, the QLED TVs are truly our most cutting edge and contemporary-designed TVs based on the modern consumer’s lifestyle. As such we are proud to say that our consumers will be able to enjoy their content and how they interact with their devices on a redefined level.”

Head of Audio Visual Division, Samsung Malaysia Electronics, Vincent Lee, said based on consumer feedback, there was demand for big, big screens.

That explains the screen sizes of the new Samsung QLED TVs – the Q9F comes with 75″ and 65″ screens, the Q8C (65″, 55″) and the Q7F (75″, 65″ and 55″). These models feature enhanced colour and contrast, HDR10+ compatibility, Magic Screen, Smart TV enhancements with SmartThings, One Remote Control and the One Invisible Connection. Prices range from RM8,489 to RM34,904.

Samsung also launched soundbars. The HW-N650 is aimed at gamers featuring Acoustic Beam Technology that puts the players at the centre of the action. The HW-NW700 is a wall-mounted design which complements the QLED TVs.
