The MOON by Simaudio 491 Network Player/Preamp and 461 Power Amplifier were launched at AV Intelligence tonight.
Representing Canada-based MOON by Simaudio was International Sales Manager Geraldine Brinchault who gave a short presentation on the company and its latest products.
After that it was demo time and music was played on a system comprising the MOON by Simaudio 491 Network Player/Preamp and the 461 Power Amp driving Silent Pound speakers.
The event was made more pleasant by pizzas, curry puffs, chips, nuts and a free flow of beer, wine and whisky.
From the company’s website: “At its core is MiND 2, MOON’s proprietary network streaming platform. The 491 uses the UPnP protocol, is Roon Ready, and supports Apple AirPlay, Bluetooth, Qobuz Connect, Spotify Connect, and TIDAL Connect. With the MOON MiND Controller app for iOS and Android, listeners can access major music services including Qobuz, TIDAL, Deezer, and Spotify.
“The 491 also integrates MOON Hybrid Power, a proprietary power supply architecture designed to deliver ultra-stable, very low-noise DC power. Operating at switching frequencies beyond the audio band, it helps protect sensitive audio circuits and contributes to a lower noise floor.
“Its DAC section uses two ESS 9039Q2M converters in dual-mono mode, paired with a precision clock and a refined output stage.”
It also features an MM/MC phono preamp which is configurable and a headphone amp.
At the heart of the MOON 461 Power Amplifier is MDCA, MOON Distortion-Cancelling Amplifier, a proprietary architecture designed to reduce distortion and improve linearity.
The 461 delivers 150 watts per channel into 8 ohms, 300 watts per channel into 4 ohms, and 450 watts in bridged mono mode into 8 ohms.
MOON products have warranty for 10 years.
