It was a morning of music and more music at the launch of Begins Acoustic’s new showroom on the ground floor of its shoplot yesterday.
Soon after the ribbon-cutting ceremony at about 10am, the attendees went into the demo room behind the lobby. Inside was demo system comprising Audiovector R6 Arrete floorstanders, Gryphon Diablo 333 integrated amp, Revox Reel-to-Reel tape recorder, Eversolo, Tiglon cables, Ansuz and Axxess components.
Kenix Chua, who was previously a recording engineer, brought her studio experience to the hi fi sector by having live performances recorded on tape and digitally simultaneously and played back on the demo system for comparison.
Yesterday, the first artiste was Gary Chee, a singer and guitarist who has released a few CDs, and the second artiste was Jez Low, a guzheng specialist and music teacher. Setting up the recording system was sound engineer Voon who recorded the songs on 32 bit 96 Hz.
My opinion of the analogue versus digital recordings and playback was that the digital recordings sounded brighter and more detailed while the analogue recordings smeared the details, but sounded smoother and more pleasant.
